Benenden Hospital invests £1.4m in new MRI suite

An upgraded MRI facility featuring a Siemens Healthineers MAGNETOM Altea scanner is set to enhance diagnostic services and improve patient experience at the independent Kent hospital

Benenden Hospital, an independent hospital based near Cranbrook in Kent, has completed a £1.4m refurbishment of its MRI suite, including the installation of a new state-of-the-art MRI scanner.

The hospital officially marked the opening of the upgraded facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by members of the Imaging team, community partners, the project management team, and hospital leadership.

The ribbon was cut by world champion record-holding GB Masters athletes, Mensah Elliott and Joe Appiah, both of whom are former diagnostic patients at Benenden Hospital.

The new equipment offers increased image quality and faster scan times, enhancing diagnostic accuracy and efficiency. 

The upgrade will increase capacity within the Imaging department, allowing the hospital to offer in excess of 6,000 MRI appointments per year.

In addition to its clinical capabilities, the refurbished MRI suite has been designed to support patient comfort and wellbeing. 

Additionally, the facility includes a picture wall featuring landscape photography of the local Wealden countryside, intended to help patients relax during procedures. 

The new scanner also has a wider bore,  the patient chamber,  to improve comfort for those undergoing scans. The investment forms part of Benenden Hospital’s ongoing programme of service enhancements.
