Bouygues UK has been appointed as the construction partner for the new Cambridge Children’s Hospital.
The project is being delivered in partnership with Arcadis, a design and consultancy firm that provides sustainable solutions for natural and built assets, and Terrell International, a building engineering consultancy.
AECOM, an infrastructure consulting firm, is also involved in the project.
Designed by architects Hawkins\Brown, working in partnership with White Arkitekter, the building features a combination of unitised and stick cladding systems, incorporating Glass Reinforced Concrete (GRC) panels, vertical terracotta fins, and picture frame detailing to create a modern and welcoming aesthetic.

The new Cambridge Children’s Hospital is a landmark facility that aims to transform paediatric healthcare in the region through a fully integrated model combining physical and mental health services with cutting-edge research.
It will be the first hospital of its kind to co-locate children’s mental and physical health care within a single building, supporting early diagnosis and prevention, and enabling improved outcomes for children and young people, including those with cancer.
The new hospital will be built on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and has been designed with input from children, young people, families, and healthcare professionals.
The collaborative design process is intended to ensure the hospital environment reflects the needs of its patients and those who care for them.

The six-storey building spans approximately 35,000 sqm and will include landscaped areas with therapeutic play spaces, a cycle store with capacity for 190 bicycles, and a northeast car park.
Sustainability is central to the development, which is targeting BREEAM Excellent certification and has been designed to align with the NHS’s Net Zero Carbon goals.
Bouygues UK is incorporating renewable technologies such as Air Source Heat Pumps and photovoltaic cells as part of its commitment to reducing environmental impact.
The project represents a significant step forward for paediatric care in the UK and sets a new standard in how children’s hospitals are conceived, built, and delivered.
