Knightsbridge Furniture, a UK furniture manufacturer with over 85 years of experience, has supplied 158 pieces of specialist furniture to the newly opened Cygnet Elowen Hospital in Derbyshire.
The new 24-bed facility focuses on providing specialist care for individuals living with eating disorders, personality disorders, and associated mental health conditions.
The hospital’s interior design was carefully planned to create safe, calming, and therapeutic environments, recognising the crucial role furniture plays in supporting patient comfort, emotional regulation, and recovery.

Knightsbridge was selected for its expertise in designing furniture suited to mental health and specialist care settings.
Working closely with Cygnet’s interior design team and one of their Experts by Experience, someone with lived inpatient mental health care experience, Knightsbridge identified and supplied furniture that meets both practical and emotional needs.
The Settle seating range and Hailwood coffee table were chosen for lounge areas, while the Buzz tub and GoGo armchairs were selected for therapy rooms, all contributing to a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere for service users

Knightsbridge Furniture has further projects planned with Cygnet, continuing their shared commitment to creating therapeutic, supportive healthcare environments.
Hannah Cooper, Interior Fit-out Lead for Cygnet, said: “[Knightsbridge’s] understanding of the unique demands of mental health settings, combined with their willingness to collaborate and adapt, meant we could design spaces that are not only functional and safe but also feel welcoming and supportive for the individuals in our care.”

Jason Brown, Director of Design and Development at Knightsbridge, added: “We’ve worked with Hannah at Cygnet, on a number of projects before, but the Cygnet Elowen Hospital is so unique it required something special and furniture with a particular aesthetic/performance ratio. The brief was to create both a sanctuary and a safe space for particularly vulnerable service users.
“It was really rewarding having the Cygnet team in our factory for an open discussion about their requirements and to discuss solutions and possibilities ‘real-time’ with the furniture. Their understanding of the environment is invaluable, and I particularly enjoyed meeting one of their ‘Experts by Experience’ who brought up points that influenced the outcome.”
