Hampshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has been part of a planning proposal submission to extend Romsey Hospital.
Originally part of the Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, Romsey Community Hospital transitioned to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust following a merger in October 2024.
The extension would be to house a physiotherapy department to the north-west of the site.
The submission was made by Studio Four Architects, a Hampshire and Devon-based architecture firm specialising in healthcare, among other sectors.
The “Determination Deadline” is set for 13th October this year.
The proposal documents state that currently the site provides a wide range of physical health services, with two rehabilitation wards. The proposed extension would be about 121 sqm.
Borough councillor Nick Adams-King told Hampshire Chronicle: “I welcome this happening, but I do wish that all the different branches of the NHS would talk to each other. There needs to be a much more joined-up approach to care in Romsey.
“There is the opportunity for Romsey Hospital to expand with the size that it has. Test Valley Borough Council has offered to look at the ways it could join up with other services, and I know Southampton Hospital is also looking for consulting space.
“I welcome (the extension), but I would also welcome a rounded conversation on if there is a better way we could deliver things.”
Romsey Hospital moved to its current site in 1931. Since then, there have been a few expansions and updates.
