Building Better Healthcare has taken a look at the latest technologies NHS Trusts and other healthcare providers have integrated into their systems to advance their digital evolution in July 2025.
In July, the UK government published Fit for the Future: 10-Year Health Plan for England, a blueprint aimed at reshaping the NHS.
The plan sets the strategic direction for reform over the next decade, emphasising three transformative shifts: moving care from hospitals into the community, transitioning from analogue to digital systems, and prioritising prevention over treatment.
In line with the government’s vision, NHS Trusts and partners are already taking action, launching new collaborations and adopting digital tools.

Order communications platform
Aire Logic, a Leeds-based tech consultancy, has partnered with The Christie NHS Foundation Trust to deliver a new digital test ordering system.
The bespoke Order Communications platform replaces paper processes across the cancer centre’s inpatient departments.
It enables 3,000 clinicians to order and track tests in real time, improving communication, transparency, and efficiency.
The Christie, Europe’s largest single-site cancer centre, worked closely with Aire Logic to tailor the system to its complex clinical needs.
The trust is believed to be the only NHS organisation to implement a fully bespoke platform of this kind.
Operations system
Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has partnered with TeleTracking UK, a healthcare technology company, to launch a new Care Co-ordination Centre designed to improve patient flow and operational efficiency.
Powered by TeleTracking’s Operations Platform, the system will provide real-time visibility of beds, staffing, and discharge activity.
It will replace manual tools like whiteboards and phone calls with digital workflows to reduce delays and ease pressure on frontline staff.
Radiology reporting model
Hexarad, a UK-based teleradiology provider, has expanded its subspecialty reporting network to support rising demand from NHS and private healthcare providers.
Using its AI-powered platform, Hexarad connects hospitals with expert radiologists across key subspecialties, offering rapid second opinions and out-of-hours reporting.
Its auto-allocation tool assigns 80% of scans in minutes, reducing admin time by 90%. The consultant-led model maintains high clinical standards through peer review and double-reading of complex cases.
Hexarad currently supports subspecialties including Nuclear Medicine, Cardiac Imaging, Whole Body MRI, Lung Cancer Screening, and CT Colonoscopy.
Integrated EPR system
Altera Digital Health, a UK provider of electronic patient records (EPR), has released Sunrise 25.1, the latest version of its integrated EPR system.
Developed in collaboration with healthcare clients, the new release introduces nearly 700 updates aimed at improving performance, usability, and efficiency.
Key features include embedded best-practice workflows, configurable tools to boost productivity, and the integration of ambient listening capabilities.
Alongside the core EPR update, Altera has also launched several complementary products.
Electronic medicines management system
Better, an electronic medicines management solutions provider, and Speeds Healthcare, an outsourced medicines management provider for the independent sector, have formed a partnership to roll out Better Meds across 55 mental health sites in the UK.
Better Meds is Better’s electronic medicines management system. It aims to standardise medicine management, enhance reporting, and streamline stock ordering across all sites.
The phased rollout starts in October, aiming for full implementation by the end of 2026.
The move will replace manual paper records with electronic prescribing and medicine administration (ePMA), improving patient safety through automated checks and clinical decision support.
Nurses will spend less time on paperwork and stock management, freeing them to focus more on patient care.
Digital prescribing system
Patients at Hywel Dda University Health Board in west Wales will soon benefit from a new digital prescribing system.
The health board has chosen Better as its technology partner to implement electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (ePMA), replacing existing paper-based methods.
This system will help reduce medication errors by providing clear, legible prescriptions with built-in safety checks for allergies and correct dosages.
Hywel Dda UHB joins other Welsh health boards in adopting ePMA as part of the national Digital Medicines programme led by Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW), aiming to make prescribing, dispensing, and administering medicines safer, simpler, and more efficient for both patients and healthcare staff.
