Recovery and cost consultancy specialist claims healthcare organisations are paying more than they need to as it secures latest contract

Recovery and cost consultancy specialist, PCMG, has signed a contract with Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in an effort to secure operational savings.

The acute hospital trust has signed up to PCMG’s utility cost recovery service through the analysis and recovery framework.

While we have already helped to reclaim £7m for some of the UK’s NHS trusts, there is still much more to be done

The deal marks the company’s 5,000th contract utilising its expertise in identifying and rectifying current and historical overpayments across electricity gas, water and telecoms expenditure. The service is available to NHS trusts and other UK public sector bodies as part of the NHS Shared Business Services Framework Agreement.

PCMG has so far recovered £255m in telecoms, energy, water and accounts payable overpayments for companies across the private and public sector. To date, it has helped reclaim £7m specifically for NHS trusts, including Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Trust, and East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust.

Based on the results achieved so far, PCMG’s experts believe there is more than £20m still to recover for NHS trusts in overcharged utility costs alone.

Martin Hook, sales director, said: “Securing our 5,000th contract is a major achievement for us and comes at the same time as a pivotal point in our company heritage, our 20th anniversary.

“These significant milestones reinforce just how essential our services are, and continue to be, for UK businesses, whether they are large corporates or SMEs or organisations operating within the public sector.

“Companies routinely end up paying more than they should or are charged for services they don’t actually receive, without even being aware of it, because suppliers use complex tariff and billing structures. This, combined with the challenging economic climate, undoubtedly has a major, and sometimes devastating, impact on their bottom line.

Based on the work we have carried out to date, we believe there is more than £20m still to recover for NHS trusts in overcharged utility costs alone

“While we have already helped to reclaim £7m for some of the UK’s NHS trusts, there is still much more to be done. Based on the work we have carried out to date, we believe there is more than £20m still to recover for NHS trusts in overcharged utility costs alone.”

PCMG conducts a full forensic investigation of companies’ billing and usage history, which enables them to identify overcharges, even if current billing structures are correct.

Hook said: “Our service enables organisations of all sizes to help improve their cash flow and increase revenues. As the breadth and depth of our expertise continues to expand, we will further build upon our proven success by working with our customers in the NHS to help unlock new areas of opportunity to recover overpayments while continuing to push the boundaries by providing a more comprehensive level of analysis than ever before.”
