Agreement enables businesses to come together to provide products and services to the pathology and wider public and private health sectors

Capita’s healthcare decisions business has today announced a partnership with CliniSys, the UK’s-leading provider of laboratory information management systems.

The agreement will allow the businesses to combine their respective strengths to provide products and services to the pathology and wider public and private health sectors.

CliniSys, which has software installed in more than 2,000 laboratories across the globe, is the leading laboratory information system supplier to the UK and has been successfully developing and delivering software solutions for the clinical laboratory for over 25 years.

It offers solutions and services to healthcare professionals across all healthcare settings; hospital, laboratory and the community. All of its software and services are developed in close collaboration with advisors who hold key clinical positions across the healthcare community.

Under the partnership Capita healthcare decisions will deliver CliniSys software, and the sensitive data held by its private and public sector clients, from its highly-secure, highly-stable healthcare platform. It will also deliver CliniSys software as a service over N3, the NHS virtual private network.

The demand for enhanced resilience and disaster recovery can be attributed to the developing size and complexity of networked pathology services running over several geographical areas. The CliniSys/Capita solution will deliver pathology services with the necessary infrastructure to ensure that the required levels of availability, scalability, flexibility and business agility are supplied; essential in the modern healthcare environment where pathology businesses and services need to evolve and adapt to incorporate new services and laboratories.

Andy Lockwood, managing director at Capita healthcare decisions, said: “Demand for our managed service expertise is increasing rapidly as more and more organisations look to realise reduced cost of ownership and risk while enjoying the highest levels of data security and service resilience. CliniSys and Capita both value innovation and we have proven track records in delivery. This strategic partnership is a strong cultural fit and it will provide a great platform for growth in this significant market.”

Simon Hurst, commercial director at CliniSys, added: “With the growing emergence of pathology networks, we have seen a growing demand for offsite commercially managed solutions. As such, it has proven essential that we introduce a full IT managed service as a core offering within the CliniSys service portfolio. Following a comprehensive competitive tendering process, we are delighted to have forged a strategic partnership with Capita’s experienced heathcare decisions team to host our customers’ mission critical applications”.
