Purpose-built unit will support people living with dementia

A new dementia suite complete with café, spa bathroom, and bespoke reminiscence areas is set to open at a care home in Harrogate.

The recently-completed Springwater suite at Belmont House in Starbeck will house up to 14 people and has been designed to support independent living.

Supported by a £500,000 investment by operator, Maria Mallaband Care, the unit includes a specially-designed open and safe ‘lifestyle’ kitchenette extending into a café, as well as a spa-themed bathing room offering hydrotherapy, aromatherapy, and Croma therapy.

And the reception and lounge area has been opened up, creating a new reception desk and coffee bar.

Carefully-chosen artwork is on display in the corridors and communal areas, reflecting the history of the local area, and there are bespoke reminiscence areas featuring the famous Betty’s Tea Rooms, Farrah’s Confectioners, Harrogate Spa, Harrogate Theatre Royal, Yorkshire sports people, and the Royal Family.

Marsha Tuffin, head of dementia innovation at the home, said: “MMCG’s vision for the Belmont House Springwater Dementia Suite is simply to enable people to live a good quality of life within a supportive, thriving community.”
