Ashley House has secured planning approval from Scarborough Borough Council to deliver a much-needed new 59-unit extra care facility, 24 independent dwellings, and a new GP surgery.
The scheme is located on the three-and-a-half-acre site formerly owned by Scarborough Rugby Union Football Club.
The first phase of construction of extra care and independent living facilities will commence in 2016 with residents moving in from early 2018.
Extra care housing is purpose-built homes carefully designed for the elderly and vulnerable, enabling residents to live in a safe and secure environment.
The accommodation will provide the necessary care and support to allow residents to lead an active and fulfilling life.
“There is a significant identified need for extra care accommodation within the borough, especially affordable extra care” said Councillor Bill Chatt, portfolio holder for public health and housing at Scarborough Borough Council.
The GP surgery is proposed to be built in the second phase and will be located in a prominent position on the Scalby Road frontage. By reason of its necessary size it will become a high-quality landmark building.

Ashley House recently won a place on the framework contract with North Yorkshire County Council, where the company intends to replicate the Scalby Road development.
