Vanguard Healthcare Solutions delivers modular unit to increase capacity and relieve pressure on A&E services

Vanguard Healthcare Solutions has designed and delivered a modular ward to increase capacity for Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

The 24-bed unit will support the trust’s Emergency Village programme, aimed at increasing ward space and supporting Blackpool Victoria Hospital’s emergency department.

The programme currently consists of a three-storey, purpose-built critical care unit and same-day emergency care centre.

John Quarmby, account manager for the North at Vanguard, said: “The new modular ward is essential for creating crucial additional bed space in Blackpool.”

Pauline Tschobotko, the trust’s chief operating officer, added: “Traditionally, winter is the NHS’s busiest time, so the new ward will play an important part in helping to ease these pressures and is a fantastic addition to the hospital.

“It is one part of the work being done by the trust, which includes focusing on safely discharging patients home and working closely with our partners to ensure care packages and support are providing as quickly as possible.”

The new 24-bed unit will enable the trust to address the backlog of patients which has built up as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic
