Solihull 2 years ahead of target
Solihull Hospital has reduced its carbon emissions by 25% in just three years, two years ahead of its Carbon Trust target. The installation of a combined heat and power plant has been a major factor in the hospital's success, along with automatic PC shutdown, computer-controlled heating and high-frequency fluorescent lighting. Paul Quinsey, head of technical services at Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, said: "We have been working hard to drive down our carbon footprint as we wanted to reduce not only our emissions, but our costs so that we can divert savings back into the care and treatment of our patients. We are delighted to have saved over 55,000 tonnes since the start of the project and to have reached our first target so early."
