Work starts on refurbishment of listed nursing home
Fire-damaged Seacroft Grange transformed into specialist dementia care facility
Springfield Healthcare Group has appointed structural and civil engineering consultancy, JPG, to oversee the complex refurbishment of a listed nursing home in Leeds.
Built in the 1600s, originally as a private residence, Seacroft Grange is now a specialist dementia care home with 96 en-suite residential rooms and apartments.
JPG was appointed to provide structural advice on the delivery of two new wings for extended residential accommodation and the refurbishment of the existing Grade II listed Grange building to create a central hub and daycare facilities with inter-connecting glazed links. External landscaping along with sewer diversions and a highway cross over were also part of the brief.
The construction team is now on site under the guidance of JPG. Project director, Kevin Baker, said: “Due to the listed nature of the building this project was challenging, not least because of historic fire damage, which had gutted all of the internal fabric of the structure, making surveying and ultimately the site restoration works very challenging.”
SDA is the architect for the project and PDR Construction is the appointed contractor on site.
