Sepsis is the immune system’s overreaction to an infection or injury. Normally our immune system fights infection – but sometimes, for reasons not yet understood, it attacks our own body’s organs and tissues. If not treated immediately, Sepsis can result in organ failure and death. Yet with early diagnosis, it can be treated with antibiotics.
Each year in the UK it is estimated that around 100,000 people are admitted to hospital with Sepsis, of which around 40% will die. In order to effectively tackle Sepsis, the Sepsis Six pathway was developed to help medical staff take the best course of action to reduce preventable deaths.
Sepsis Six:
- Administer oxygen
- Take blood cultures
- Give IV antibiotics
- Give IV fluids
- Check Venous Blood Gas Lactates
- Measure urine output
To help deliver the Sepsis Six pathway, Agile Medical offers a narrow and standard size Sepsis trolley, allowing quick but secure access to equipment and storage required in each of the six stages.
