Baldry Gardens facility opens in Streatham
THE £3m NHS Baldry Gardens in Streatham has been handed over to NHS Lambeth by development partner, Building Better Health. The project forms part of a £30m construction and refurbishment programme to improve health and social care facilities across the London boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham. Delivered under the LIFT initiative, the building was designed by Henley Halebrown Rorrison architects and constructed over 56 weeks by Willmott Dixon. Located in a prominent position on Streatham High Road, it replaces an existing health facility dating back to the 1960s and provides a new home for the relocated Drakewood Road GP Practice as well as a range of NHS-provided community services and additional facilities including baby clinics, foot health, midwifery and therapy services. Internally and externally a range of subtle colours, tones and textures have been incorporated into the facility, including coloured brickwork and large windows which make the building more welcoming. In addition, sustainable materials were used and a biomass boiler has been installed.
