GE Sigma MRI scanner at Homerton
Patients at Homerton University Hospital in east London watched recently as an MRI scanner was lifted by crane over the ward blocks into its new home in the imaging unit. The state-of-the-art GE Sigma 450 1.5T is the centrepiece of an expanded diagnostic service which will allow the hospital to offer an improved diagnosis and treatment service for children from both the local and wider communities. Colin West, head of imaging at Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said: "Everything went to plan and the scanner, which is worth £1.5m, reached its final destination without a hitch." The procurement is another stage of the ongoing partnership between the trust and supplier, GE Healthcare, as part of the Olympic legacy. The scanner and the new expanded service should be up and running later in the summer.
