Kier Group appoints new head of energy

Mike Sewell to develop company\'s energy management and services offering

Kier Group has appointed Mike Sewell to develop its energy management and services offering as part of its £125m facilities management (FM) business.

Sewell joins Kier as head of energy with a wealth of experience, having spent more than 20 years in the sector, including with global energy services provider, Dalkia, and strategic outsourcing business, Mitie, where he led the development of its CarbonCare proposition.

Building on Kier’s credentials in the construction and services industries, he is developing an end-to-end integrated energy proposition, which will not only add value to the existing FM service, but will complement and enhance the wider Kier Group offering to clients, helping them make sense of their energy needs.

The energy proposition includes both strategic and detailed analysis of current energy use and needs, provision of guaranteed energy-efficiency improvements, clear performance analysis both before and after implementation, competitive financing solutions, and use of renewables to generate energy locally, as well as support for carbon and corporate compliance.

Kier managing director of the FM business, Bill Taylor, said: “Mike’s appointment is an important step in developing the services we offer. We see energy management as a key offer to our customers and area of commercial growth. Mike brings a wealth of experience from the sector.”

Sewell added: “Kier’s current service provision is second to none, with a real strength in delivering complex projects within an extensive geographical network. Both factors provide an ideal platform for developing a complete energy services package.

“In an increasingly-competitive world economy, businesses are always trying to find new ways to become more efficient and a key area for consideration is how they source, use and recycle energy. Our clients want to accomplish the tough environmental targets in their industries and naturally want to be cost efficient in difficult economic times. We will help them reach and surpass these targets, as well as achieving sustained energy security – a proposition which, understandably, I’m very excited to lead.”
