Portakabin unveils new temporary exterior and outdoor amenities range

Products include canopies, covered walkways, freestanding outdoor structures and storage options

Portakabin has launched a new range of exterior options and outdoor amenities to help integrate and equip interim facilities and provide complete, ready-to-use working and patient environments.

Modular healthcare buildings and decant ward accommodation can now be hired with an even wider range of architectural options and essential amenities. Each option complies fully with British Standards, such as wind and snow loadings, and is designed to give interim facilities a more permanent feel.

The range includes:

  • Canopies and shelters: Cantilevered structures or canopies supported by posts can enhance the entrance to a building and give it more architectural appeal. They can also allow better use of under-utilised outdoor spaces, creating sheltered waiting, seating and play areas
  • Covered walkways: A practical solution to link an interim building with other hospital facilities and provide shelter from the elements. The roofs of walkways can be curved, high barrel, low barrel or flat
  • Free-standing outdoor structures: Healthcare providers can now extend their interim facilities outside. Robust shelters using a modular framing system and integral water collection will complement any building and create zones for waiting or relaxing. Roofs can be glass, polycarbonate or coloured architectural fabric for even greater design flexibility and choice
  • Cycle storage: These structures can encourage more people to cycle and can lessen the demand for car parking. They are designed to provide secure, safe and accessible cycle storage that also helps to reduce theft and vandalism
  • Street furniture: The siting of an interim building can change the flow of traffic and people, leading to additional temporary requirements. In response to this, Portakabin can now provide litter bins, benches, bollards and barriers, delivering a complete solution to the exterior of an interim building
  • Vinyl wraps: These low-maintenance finishes, which are simple to install and remove, can be applied to the exterior of a building to totally transform its appearance. Strong corporate branding and eye-catching graphics designed for maximum impact can turn a building into a valuable communications vehicle. Murals and more subtle colour schemes can be used to blend an interim facility into its surrounding environment and can help secure planning approval in environmentally sensitive locations

The Portakabin exteriors range also includes smoking shelters and children’s play equipment.

Commenting on this latest range of options, Robert Snook, director and general manager of Portakabin Hire, said: “We can now supply and install all the exterior furnishings and amenities that may be needed for an interim healthcare building. This highly-flexible package of solutions will reduce the time and resources our customers spend sourcing quality products for short-term use, and the options will help to integrate the facility on the site, providing a more attractive and welcoming environment for staff and patients.”

“We believe there should be no compromise on the quality of the environment just because the accommodation is temporary, and this range of solutions strongly reflects that ethos.”

Applications for interim healthcare buildings include clinics, decant ward buildings to help reduce waiting times during peak periods, dialysis units, offices, and ancillary accommodation.
