Marshall-Tufflex Powerpoles commissioned as part of Derriford Hospital revamp

Powerpoles from Marshall-Tufflex have been used in seven refurbished operating theatres at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

Project mechanical and electrical engineering consultants, Hoare-Lea, required pendant-style containment for the delivery of additional data cabling in order to expand and co-ordinate existing services.

Spokesman, Steven Libralon, said: “We chose Powerpoles for ease of installation, technical suitability and neatness of profile.”

Derriford Hospital offers health services to around 450,000 people and refurbishment of the operating theatres is just one of many upgrades the trust is undertaking to improve the safety, quality and efficiency of its facilities.

Newey and Eyre supplied the Marshall-Tufflex ceiling-mounted inverted hanging Powerpoles in 1100mm lengths for onsite installation by Mitie Engineering. The architect for the project was Stride Treglown.

Peter Addelsee of the hospital’s estates department said: “Switching from wall-mounted to ceiling-mounted containment eliminates trailing cables and is preferable for health and safety reasons in operating theatres where power services need to be delivered in a convenient and accessible manner.”

The Powerpoles are made from fine tolerance extruded aluminium alloy and finished with silver anodised or white powder coating as standard.
