MAGNETOM Aera 1.5T MR system from Siemens Healthcare aids neurological and orthopaedic imaging

King’s Mill Hospital, part of the Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, has installed a MAGNETOM Aera 1.5T MR system from Siemens Healthcare.

The hospital is using the system, which replaces a previous-generation system, for a broad range of imaging including neurological and orthopaedic procedures. It also hopes to expand services in the future to include cardiac and breast imaging.

The Aera, chosen for its wide bore, integrated coils and detachable table, features a 70cm bore with a short system design for high patient comfort and ease of access. It has already helped to image claustrophobic and bariatric patients who could not previously be accommodated by the hospital.

The system’s detachable table and Tim 4G integrated coil technology are assisting with ease-of-use. This has been facilitated further with the system’s user-friendly interface and syngo applications.

The MAGNETOM Aera features the DotTM (Day optimising throughput) comprehensive workflow solution, helping to streamline the imaging process. Benefits of Dot include a customisable framework for patient personalisation, step-by-step user guidance, and examination automation.

“When choosing a new MR system we had specific criteria, including the need for a wide bore and detachable table.” said Jackie Collingwood, the hospital’s superintendent radiographer.

“The MAGNETOM Aera fulfilled these needs, along with providing excellent image quality and ease-of-use. The syngo applications and user interface have been simple to use and have made staff training straight forward.”
