Esaote system will help with ultrasound-guided procedures

North Bristol NHS Trust has invested in eight mobile ultrasound systems to improve patient treatment in anaesthaesia and intensive care services.

The trust, which runs Southmead and Frenchay hospitals, has commissioned seven mobile MyLab25Gold systems and one MyLabFive ultrasound system from Esaote.

A south west specialist trauma centre, tertiary referral centre for neurosurgery and a regional centre of excellence in orthopaedic surgery, urology and renal transplantation, the trust hopes the procurement will improve the service it offers patients.

“We are a major centre for neuro, orthopaedics and urology,” said Dr Chris Thompson, consultant anaesthetist at North Bristol. “We have wide-ranging demands for ultrasound across a number of busy surgical departments and our requirement was for a hard-working, fully-flexible system with the highest possible quality of imaging as our use of image-guided procedures is increasing.”

Southmead Hospital will use the equipment for procedures including ultrasound-guided epidurals in obstetrics, placing central lines in vascular patients, and for echocardiograms in ICU. All Bristol hospitals will also use the system in their intensive care facilities.
