GP-turned-comedian back by popular demand to host the 2012 awards in London

As a result of the success of the 2011 event, it has been confirmed this week that GP-turned-comedian, Dr Phil Hammond, will return as host of this year’s Building Better Healthcare Awards.

Having qualified as a doctor in 1987, Phil became a GP in 1991, specialising in sexual health. His career on the stage started as one half of Struck Off and Die, which had five sell-out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and was twice selected for the Perrier Pick of the Fringe Award . In 2002, he also fronted 28 Minutes to Save the NHS on Radio 4, which he extended to a sell-out Edinburgh Fringe Festival show and a 60-date UK tour.

Since 1992, he has written Private Eye’s medical column, Doing the Rounds , and has presented five series of Trust Me, I’m a Doctor on BBC2, exposing the wide variations in care across the NHS. He has also appeared on numerous TV panel shows and is much in demand as a speaker, facilitator and conference chairman, as well as being the author of several best-selling books.

But he has found time in his busy schedule to front the 2012 BBH Awards , where he will once again be announcing the winners of 16 awards celebrating the very best innovations in the healthcare sector.

Organised by BBH, the ceremony will be held on 7 November at The Brewery, an eye-catching venue in central London.

BBH editor, Jo Makosinski, said: “Last year Phil had guests in stitches with an impromptu stand-up routine, which we know the guests this year will enjoy just as much. We are really pleased to have secured his services as a presenter once again and hope our 500-plus guests will enjoy his witty take on the world of healthcare while they wait to hear who has won the awards.”

There are a limited number of category sponsorship opportunities remaining which guarantee a table at the awards presentation lunch and a stand at the exhibition, together with advertising and branding at the ceremony.
