Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust has completed a three-week refurbishment of Edward ward, transforming the former adult ward into a space for young patients requiring hospital care.
The project has created a number of dedicated areas for children and their families, including a parent room, children’s play room and a private expression pod for breastfeeding mothers.
The refurbishment also included a series of infrastructure upgrades to support clinical care.
These included installation of a new nurse call system, additional medical gas provision, refurbishment of side rooms and a full electrical resilience upgrade.
The work was delivered in just three weeks by a project team led by senior project manager Hassan Saif, working closely with the Trust’s clinical and estates teams.
Saif said the project’s delivery timeframe was dependent on the collaboration and expertise of those involved.
“Completing a project of this scale in such a short time is only possible thanks to the teamwork and expertise of those involved,” he said.
“Together we have created a thoughtful, welcoming space for young patients and their families that also supports exceptional patient care.”
