The construction firm has completed a £3m refurbishment of Maple Ward at Sheffield’s Longley Centre

Henry Boot Construction has completed a refurbishment project at Maple Ward, a mental health facility located in the Longley Centre, Sheffield.

The  £3m overhaul delivers improvements designed to support patients, staff and clinical outcomes.

“This project has been about much more than construction, it’s about creating a safe, therapeutic environment that truly supports recovery and wellbeing,” said Ryan O’Loughlin, Regional Director of Henry Boot Construction.

The project, secured through the Procure Partnerships Framework, reimagines the two‑storey Maple Ward into a safer, more therapeutic environment.

Central to the refurbishment is a redesigned layout featuring 17 new en‑suite bedrooms, an accessible bedroom and dedicated calming de‑escalation facilities.

Key enhancements also include a landscaped garden courtyard offering a restorative outdoor space, upgraded mechanical and electrical systems, new windows and doors, and improved drainage infrastructure.

Additional upgraded communal facilities range from a quiet room and staff rest area to a dining room, clinic space, lounge and dispensary.

The completed facility will be operated by Sheffield Health Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust.

Maple Ward plays a vital role in providing assessment and treatment for people experiencing a range of emergency mental health needs in Sheffield.

The refurbishment reached its targeted completion ahead of the planned reopening later this year.
