Waiting is over for outpatients and staff

New mobile queue management system launched

Bleep or paging devices are used in most businesses where queue management is essential.

But the hygiene concerns around sharing such devices, and the equipment costs, are both negative factors in that system.

Now, the new Mobile Queue Management System aims to address both these problems.

Conceived by Francis Essuman, managing director of Leap Pharma, and developed and marketed by ECS Global; the new system allows staff to take a patient’s mobile telephone number when they arrive, enter it into the system, and the patient can then go to appointments in other departments such as phlebotomy.

The patient then receives an alert in the form of a text message when they should return there for their appointment.

This means that patients do not need to wait in outpatients clinics, will not lose their place in the queue, and can make better use of their time. It also reduces the congestion in the clinic and stops it becoming a potentially-stressful environment for both staff and patients.

In addition, by reducing congestion, the possibility of airborne viral transmission is minimised, especially in the winter months. The current system of transferring pagers/bleepers from one client to another can now be superseded by Mobile Queue Management System, allowing patients to use their own mobile phones.

The Mobile Queue Management System is an easy-to-use Windows application, which means minimal training is required. Training is carried out remotely and the system then provides low-cost and trouble-free maintenance.

Although initially being introduced in pharmacy as the Pharmacy Prescription Alert System; it is adaptable to any health department or any business where alerting clients is important. Pathology services and outpatient clinics are a good example.

Essuman said: “I have seen at first hand just how busy a hospital department can be and how stressful it is when patients have to wait some time. I thought there has to be a better way of dealing with this situation and I believe the Mobile Queue Management System provides the solution.”

Carlo St Clair, business development manager at ECS Global, added: “The system is easy to use and the training required is minimal. We are excited by the possibilities.

“We will now futureproof the system with innovative functions to help improve working life for staff and the patient experience in pharmacy and other hospital departments.”
