Waiting is over for outpatients and staff

New mobile queue management system now available

Bleep or paging devices are used in most businesses where queue management is essential. But the hygiene concerns of sharing such devices, and the equipment costs, are both negative factors in that system. Now the new Mobile Queue Management System removes both hygiene concerns and equipment costs.

The Mobile Queue Management System allows staff to take a patient's mobile telephone number when they arrive, enter it into the system and the patient can then go to appointments in other departments such as phlebotomy.

The patient can attend phlebotomy knowing that an alert in the form of a text message will come from the outpatient clinic when they should return there for their appointment. This means patients do not need to wait in outpatients, will not lose their place in the queue, and can make better use of their time. It reduces the congestion in the clinic and stops it becoming a potentially-stressful environment for both staff and patients.

In addition, by reducing congestion, the possibility of airborne viral transmission is minimised, especially in the winter months. The current system of transferring pagers/bleepers from one client to another can now be superseded by Mobile Queue Management System, allowing patients to use their own mobile phones.

The Mobile Queue Management System is an easy-to-use windows application, which means minimal training is required. Training is carried out remotely and the system then provides low-cost and trouble-free maintenance.

Although initially being introduced in pharmacy as the Pharmacy Prescription Alert System, it is adaptable to any health department or any business where alerting clients is important. Pathology services and outpatient clinics are good examples.

The Mobile Queue Management System was conceived by Francis Essuman, managing director of Leap Pharma and a pharmacist with considerable experience of busy hospital pharmacy departments.

He said: "I have seen at first hand just how busy a hospital department can be and how stressful it is when patients have to wait some time. I thought there has to be a better way of dealing with this situation and I believe that the Mobile Queue Management System provides the solution."

Francis approached ECS Global to develop and market the system.

"This is an excellent system for busy hospital departments" said Carlo St Clair, business development manager at ECS Global.

"The system is easy to use and the training required is minimal. We are excited by the possibilities. We will futureproof with innovative functions to help improve working life for staff and improve the patient experience in pharmacy and other hospital departments."
