Croydon Hospital introduces new tech to one of the most advanced blood diagnostic facilities in the UK

A new Southeest London Pathology laboratory at Croydon Hospital has transformed the diagnostic facility into one of the most advanced and innovative in the UK

South West London Pathology (SWLP) has introduced cutting-edge technologies to its laboratories to create one of the most modern, innovative, and efficient clinical blood science services in the UK.

This is in collaboration with Beckman Coulter, a global leader in clinical diagnostics. 

The installation of new Beckman Coulter analysers at Croydon Hospital marks the initial phase of rolling out new blood sciences services across all SWLP sites.

Rob Young, UK General Manager for Beckman Coulter, said: “By enhancing the capabilities of the laboratory staff, we are enabling them to not only increase the volume of tests but also to improve the quality of the results they provide to the clinical community. 

“Our fundamental mission is to improve the operation of the laboratory, allowing the Croydon Health Services team to focus on safeguarding and improving patient health across the community.”

The new blood sciences services cover: 

  • Clinical chemistry
  • Haematology
  • Coagulation
  • Serology
  • Pre-analytical automation

South West London Pathology is an NHS pathology partnership delivering a single, integrated pathology service to a population of over 3.5 million people across South West London.

The partnership is made up of five hospital sites:

  1. St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
  2. Croydon Health Services NHS Trust
  3. Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
  4. Epsom Hospital
  5. St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust

South West London Pathology (SWLP) has introduced cutting-edge technologies to its laboratories

As well as South West London Pathology providing a wide range of diagnostic and clinical support services to these five hospitals, it also provides its services to 450 GPs across London and surrounding areas, and other NHS institutions and private organisations.
