BBH health tech round-up: October 2026

Building Better Healthcare has rounded up key health technology developments announced during October 2026, spanning AI-assisted diagnostics, digital patient records, interpreting services, laboratory technology and healthcare administration

Across October 2026, healthcare technology developments continued to focus on improving diagnostic accuracy and connecting patient information, with the aim of reducing administrative pressures across clinical services.

Among the announcements were the introduction of AI-supported breast cancer detection, new electronic patient record technology for specialist eating disorder services, and expanded digital interpreting across NHS hospitals.

AI and digital diagnostics

GenesisCare introduces AI software to support earlier breast cancer detection: GenesisCare is preparing to introduce Lunit’s INSIGHT Breast Suite, becoming the first UK provider to bring the mammogram AI software into clinical use.

The technology will automatically assess breast density and identify suspicious areas in mammogram images, providing radiologists with additional information to support diagnosis. Every mammogram will continue to be reviewed by two radiologists, with clinical decisions remaining clinician-led.

Intuitive reaches 10,000 robotic-assisted lung biopsy procedures in Europe: Intuitive has announced that clinicians across Europe have performed more than 10,000 procedures using its Ion endoluminal system since receiving CE marking in 2023.

The robotic-assisted bronchoscopy technology uses a shape-sensing catheter to navigate narrow airways and reach small or difficult-to-access lung nodules for biopsy, supporting the diagnosis of suspected lung cancer.

Digital patient records and healthcare administration

Mirror is designed to give patients a record they can revisit after an appointment and share with relatives, carers or other clinicians, with the aim of reducing the need to repeatedly explain their medical history.

Connected care and patient communication

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust delivers 50,000 minutes of video interpreting: Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) has passed 50,000 minutes of video interpreting since beginning a Trust-wide rollout of an on-demand service in partnership with language services provider Dals.

More than 2,500 interpreting sessions have been delivered across 46 languages, with an average connection time of 22 seconds.

The service is available around the clock through tablets and desktop devices, with maternity services emerging as its biggest user, particularly during labour and emergency caesarean sections.

The technology has also improved access to less commonly available languages, with successful requests for Vietnamese interpreters increasing from 66% to 100%.

Laboratory and healthcare data technology

Clinisys introduces document intelligence capabilities for laboratories: Laboratory informatics provider Clinisys has expanded its Laboratory Solution (CLS) platform with document intelligence capabilities designed to make unstructured laboratory information easier to capture, search and manage.
