MEP service provider has opened an apprentice training facility in Leeds to support projects across hospital estates and other critical infrastructure

G&H has opened an apprentice training facility in Leeds to support training new workers for mechanical, electrical and public health (MEP) projects for hospital estates and other infrastructure.

“We’re always looking for new ways to strengthen our apprenticeship programme and develop a highly skilled pipeline of future tradespeople,” said Paul Churchill, Development Manager at G&H. “This dedicated training facility gives our apprentices more time to build practical skills and confidence before working on live sites, helping them meet both industry regulations and G&H’s own high standards.”

The new facility replicates a real-world construction environment, allowing apprentices to gain hands-on experience in both electrical and mechanical tasks.

By providing additional training opportunities beyond college and live projects, G&H enables apprentices to reach near-qualified skill levels up to a year before completing their formal apprenticeships.

The G&H apprentice programme was established in 1999 to develop a pipeline of skilled engineers through hands-on training and mentorship.

The new training facility in Leeds will help address the construction industry's skills shortage and ensure a highly skilled workforce for future projects.

The government finds that the construction industry will need approximately 251,500 additional workers by 2028  just to meet expected demand for the 2024- 2028 period.

G&H is currently working on several significant projects, including a £12 million MEP contract for Harrogate District Hospital, which is part of the government's New Hospital Programme.

Additionally, G&H has secured a contract with Centrica Business Solutions to deliver turnkey MEP solutions at Solihull Hospital to support net-zero plans.

“We are proud to support G&H with their apprentice scheme, helping to train and develop the next generation of apprentices,” Mark Kitchen, Branch Manager at LED Electrical, a long-standing partner of G&H.
