Healthcare fitout specialist Medical Air Technology (MAT) is nearing handover of a new operating theatre at Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry, Shropshire.
The Theatre 12 project extends the hospital’s surgical facilities and follows MAT’s completion of the fitout of Theatre 11 and its adjacent recovery area in 2025.
As part of the turnkey fitout, MAT installed a full critical ventilation system, mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) services, specialist theatre equipment, building works and internal finishes.
The new operating theatre features a MAT ECO-flow Stealth 3200 ultraclean ventilation canopy, designed to provide controlled airflow within the surgical environment.
The project also includes a clinical store at ground-floor level, replacement roof coverings across part of the existing roof and an equipment and bed lift within the facility.
Supporting the theatre is a plant room housing supply and extract air handling units.
The original plant room was designed to accommodate future expansion of the facility, allowing for the addition of Theatre 12.
MAT said the project team was approaching handover, with the new theatre forming part of the hospital’s ongoing development of its surgical facilities.
The team is also undertaking a separate theatre fitout project at Nottingham University Hospitals, where it has begun work on three specialist theatres as part of a £35m elective surgery expansion.
