ModuleCo enters final phase of CDC

ModuleCo has started internal fit-out works of the new Community Diagnostic Centre, known as the North Kent CDC, at Livingstone Community Hospital

ModuleCo has entered the final phase of the new Community Diagnostic Centre, known as the North Kent CDC, at Livingstone Community Hospital, with internal fit-out works underway.

Following the completion of the foundation works, all twenty building modules have now been installed on site.

Each module was constructed off-site at our manufacturing campus in Gloucestershire and delivered to the site at 90% completion, each weighing in excess of 25T.

Jonathan Brindley, ModuleCo’s Project Sponsor and Sales Director, said: “This milestone marks a major step towards delivering a much-needed diagnostic facility for the people of North Kent. While work continues on the internal fit-out, it’s rewarding to see the building now physically taking shape on site, bringing us closer to handover and helping the Trust expand their capacity for diagnostic services.”

The 1,160m² standalone building has been designed to provide a long-term solution to the growing demand for diagnostic services in Dartford and the surrounding area. It will replace a temporary facility installed in November 2023.

This CDC is being delivered using ModuleCo’s ‘Factory First’ approach to construction.

By completing the vast majority of the construction process off-site while foundation works take place, we are able to significantly reduce project risk and delivery times.

The building layout has been developed in close collaboration with the Trust team. The ground floor will include:

  • CT and MRI scanning rooms, each with a separate control room
  • Incoming and outgoing waiting rooms to support efficient patient flow
  • Assessment rooms for Respiratory, ECHO, Phlebotomy, Ultrasound, and ECG/Ambulatory services
  • Admin and office space, two stores, an IT room, and utility areas
  • Changing rooms for staff, male and female users, and disabled users

The new facility will operate seven days a week, from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. Once open, it is expected to support up to 130,000 additional diagnostic tests each year.

Garrett Turbett, who is leading the project on behalf of Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust, added: “It’s fantastic to see the North Kent CDC progressing at pace. The modular and off-site approach has allowed us to keep momentum on site, while minimising disruption to patients and staff. This facility will make a real difference to people across Dartford and further afield, helping us to reduce waiting times and improve access to diagnostic tests closer to home.”

ModuleCo is delivering the CDC as a full turnkey solution in partnership with Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust and NHS Property Services. This includes design, off-site construction, foundation works, module installation and the integration of specialist diagnostic equipment.

The project remains on track for completion and handover in June 2025.
