Panasonic has introduced its CardioHealth Station to the UK and European healthcare markets.
The technology combines traditional cardiovascular risk factors, for example Framingham, with ultrasound imaging of the carotid artery wall thickness, known as C-IMT, which is a powerful cardiovascular disease risk marker.
A spokesman said: “Cardiovascular disease can be effectively reduced when you are able to identify more accurately those individuals that are at higher risk. Instead of waiting for symptoms, or relying on classical risk factors, the CardioHealth Station is capable of detecting the first signs of vascular damage using sophisticated ultrasound technology.”
The device is specifically developed for primary care and occupational health settings and clinics providing screening services. The ultrasound scan takes less than five minutes and can be performed by any medical professional due to its simplicity and the level of automation.
The spokesman said: “Introducing cardiovascular screening not only provides the first step in the early detection of cardiovascular risk, but will also create new revenue streams for clinical practices. Using the CardioHealth Station opens the way to prevention beyond the current traditional risk assessment approaches. The scan will create awareness of atherosclerosis and motivates individuals regardless of whether they are young, middle-aged or senior to change their lifestyles or be more compliant to medication intake.”
