Proximie has launched the largest surgical AI evaluation undertaken in the NHS, with its technology being deployed across 104 operating theatres, endoscopy suites and catheterisation laboratories at eight NHS hospital sites.
The year-long programme, delivered in collaboration with AWS, Deloitte and participating NHS organisations, will assess whether AI-driven operational intelligence can help hospitals treat more patients using their existing theatre capacity and workforce.
Proximie’s Intelligence Suite captures surgical and operational data in the background without disrupting clinical teams. The data is de-identified and anonymised at source before being analysed by AI models to identify bottlenecks and opportunities to improve theatre flow.
The programme is expected to cover more than 20,000 procedures a year, with participating sites using the insights to reduce delays between operations and make greater use of available theatre time.
AWS is providing the cloud and AI infrastructure for the programme, while Deloitte is supporting delivery and transformation across participating NHS trusts and the NHS London region.
Programme aims to generate evidence for wider NHS adoption
The initiative uses a common evaluation framework across eight hospital sites to assess whether surgical AI can deliver measurable improvements at scale.
Proximie said early deployments of its Intelligence Suite have indicated the potential to enable an additional surgical case per day through improved theatre flow and operational efficiency.
The technology is already deployed across NHS organisations including University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire and Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, where Proximie reports an 8.2% increase in cases and a 30% reduction in turnover time.

The announcement follows Proximie's designation as an AI Pioneer by AWS through its Pioneers Project 2026, as well as its collaboration with NVIDIA on Project Rheo, focused on intelligent operating theatres, surgical data, AI and healthcare robotics.
