A joint venture between the Department of Health and Sopra Steria has requested supplier input to shape the next iteration of its design, furniture and appliances framework

NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS) has issued a preliminary market engagement notice for its proposed Design, Furniture and Appliances 3 framework agreement, signalling the start of supplier engagement ahead of a formal procurement process.

The framework, valued at an estimated £80m, excluding VAT, is intended to provide NHS and wider public sector organisations with access to a broad range of design-led services, furniture and appliances.

The current Design, Furniture and Appliances 2 framework is set up to give NHS and wider public sector organisations a compliant route to procure, hire and manage furniture, equipment and associated services across healthcare, office and specialist environments, with an emphasis on sustainability, reuse and operational efficiency.

NHS SBS now aims to gather feedback from suppliers operating across these sectors to help shape a service specification aligned with current and future requirements.

The scope of the proposed framework includes clinical and healthcare environment design services, supporting areas such as planning, utilisation analysis and space optimisation.

The framework will also cover end-to-end consultancy, interior design, space planning and turnkey delivery.

The agreement is also expected to cover a wide range of furniture solutions across office, residential, clinical, education and mental health environments.

Other elements within scope include ergonomic assessments to identify risks associated with workplace discomfort or injury, as well as clinical theatre equipment, environmental graphics, signage and wayfinding.

The framework will also incorporate circular economy solutions, such as the repair, refurbishment and reconditioning of furniture, alongside cleaning products and equipment including robotic vacuums, scrubbers and sweepers.

The deadline for supplier responses is 12 noon on Thursday 14 May 2026.
