Specialist contractor Norwood has been appointed by Bouygues UK to deliver a state-of-the-art Grade B cleanroom for the Oriel development in Camden, London.
The Oriel project is a collaboration between Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, and Moorfields Eye Charity.
Between these organisations, they will bring together clinical care, research, and education in a purpose-built, integrated centre.
Services will relocate from their current location near Old Street to the new facility, which aims to create a modern environment for advancing treatments in eye care.

Norwood, headquartered in Manchester, will deliver the cleanroom architectural package, alongside elements of the mechanical and electrical scope.
As a specialist in controlled environments, the company’s demountable modular panelling systems will play a key role in the build, offering both installation efficiency and future flexibility.
The cleanroom package includes the installation of demountable cleanroom partitions with integrated vision panels, low-level extract, pass-through hatches, coving, a walk-on ceiling, and doors.
All components will be prefabricated at Norwood’s advanced manufacturing facility in Manchester, enabling rapid, clean installation on site and minimising health and safety risks during construction.

The modular, demountable system has been designed to fully comply with healthcare regulatory standards while offering sustainability benefits through its recyclable and reusable configuration.
The adaptable design will allow for future reconfiguration as clinical and operational needs evolve.
Josh Bannister, Managing Director at Norwood, said: “We are thrilled to contribute to such a groundbreaking project and to once again collaborate with Bouygues UK. Building on the success of our partnership at the Ray Dolby Centre at Cambridge University, it’s exciting to see modular, high-performance systems being embraced by the healthcare sector for specialised, future-ready environments.”
Neil Pixsley, Project Director at Bouygues UK, commented: “We're looking forward to building on our successful partnership with Norwood for the cleanroom at Oriel. Their innovative approach to modular panelling systems will be instrumental in creating a flexible healthcare environment that meets the needs of the clinicians and researchers who will be based here.”
Once complete, the new centre will support closer collaborative working between clinicians and researchers to accelerate the development of advanced treatments and therapies for patients.
