Tortus, a UK-based AI specialist, has partnered with X-on Health to accelerate the rollout of AI clinical assistants in GP surgeries across the country.

The agreement will see Surgery Intellect, Tortus’s ambient clinical AI assistant, made available to GP practices across the country, irrespective of their existing telephony provider.

The collaboration also promises additional functionality for users of X-on Health’s Surgery Connect platform, enabling deeper integration of AI transcription and clinical workflow automation within primary care settings.

Surgery Intellect uses ambient voice technology to listen in on both face-to-face and telephone consultations, automatically generating clinical notes, referral letters, coding, and administrative tasks in real-time.

Early adopters of the Tortus system have reported an average time saving of four minutes per consultation, a development welcomed by clinicians under increasing workload pressures.

For Surgery Connect customers, the partnership offers enhanced capabilities, including the ability to deploy Surgery Intellect at multiple points within the patient journey, such as transcribing incoming calls at reception or managing voicemail transcription, further streamlining administrative processes.

Julian Coe, Managing Director of X-on Health, said: “After several years of collaboration, we’re tremendously excited to formally announce our partnership with Tortus. While many are exploring AI medical scribes, very few meet the rigorous clinical safety standards required for MHRA-certified medical devices. Tortus leads the field.

“Integrating Surgery Intellect into our Surgery Connect and Surgery Assist platforms will consolidate previously fragmented systems into a single, intelligent care navigation solution, ultimately improving patient access and reducing operational pressures on GP practices.”
