Alcidion launches new patient administration system built on Miya platform

The healthcare technology company has launched a system designed to connect administrative and clinical workflows, reduce manual data entry and improve the management of referrals, waiting lists and appointments

Alcidion has launched a new patient administration system (PAS) built on its Miya platform, targeting hospitals using ageing systems to manage referrals, waiting lists and appointments.

Announced on 20 October, Miya Patient Administration has been built on the company's Miya platform, drawing on its real-time integration capabilities and foundation for AI.

The system aims to give administrative teams greater visibility of patient journeys, with records showing each patient's current stage and who is responsible for the next step.

It also presents staff with daily priorities based on hospital-defined rules, with AI supporting the process.

Alcidion said the system is designed to shorten the time between referral and booking, maintain accurate, prioritised waiting lists, provide earlier visibility of bed and theatre capacity, and reduce duplicate data entry.

AI-assisted development

Alcidion said advances in AI-assisted development had enabled it to transfer its existing patient administration expertise into new Miya modules more quickly than previously possible.

“Hospitals have invested heavily in clinical systems, while the teams managing referrals, waiting lists and bookings have been left working with tools built for another era,” said Kate Quirke, Managing Director and Chief Executive of Alcidion Group.

The system is designed to integrate with other hospital systems using Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR), an international standard for exchanging health information.

Alcidion said its architecture aims to reduce integration costs and complexity while limiting the need for workarounds as demand grows.

Miya Patient Administration joins Alcidion's existing solutions for patient flow, emergency care and virtual care.

Hospitals can adopt the platform independently, integrate it into an existing Miya deployment or add other Miya solutions over time.

Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust is using Alcidion's Miya Precision platform to improve discharge coordination across seven community hospitals.

Alcidion's Miya platform is used in hospitals across Australia, New Zealand and the UK.
