Construction of a new outpatient centre at North Manchester General Hospital is expected to begin in 2027, marking the first phase of the hospital's £1.5bn redevelopment under the Government's New Hospital Programme.
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust has confirmed the facility, subject to approvals, is scheduled to open to patients in 2029.
The outpatient centre will be the first new clinical building completed as part of the wider redevelopment of the hospital campus.
The redevelopment will be delivered over approximately nine years and is expected to act as a catalyst for wider regeneration across North Manchester, alongside the Victoria North development.
The announcement follows the recent appointment of Bovis as construction partner for the £1.5bn programme, which will transform North Manchester General Hospital over the next decade.
“Having appointed our construction partners Bovis, we can now focus on the first stage of our redevelopment,” said Mark Cubbon, Chief Executive of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.
Recent New Hospital Programme developments
Bovis is one of the 10 contractors that were appointed to the Hospital 2.0 alliance to deliver major hospital schemes under the New Hospital Programme.
The outpatient centre forms the first construction package within the wider redevelopment, which will replace ageing hospital buildings with modern healthcare facilities and digitally enabled clinical environments.
According to the Trust, the programme has already generated more than £30m in social value through local employment, apprenticeships and community initiatives.
The next phase of delivery is expected to create further jobs and training opportunities as construction progresses.
North Manchester General Hospital is one of the first Wave 1 schemes in the New Hospital Programme.
