30 trophies handed out as 600 gather to find out who has been successful in this year's competition

Nearly 600 people gathered at The Brewery in central London yesterday to be among the first to find out who would be named winners of this year's Building Better Healthcare Awards.

The competition is held each year to celebrate innovation and improvement in the built environment and medical device design and to highlight the efforts of people working in the healthcare industry.

The event, hosted by GP-turned-comic, Dr Phil Hammond, was attended by representatives from the NHS, design and build, and estates and facilities management sectors, as well as suppliers of products and services into the healthcare industry.

And this year the awards presented even greater opportunities for recognition, with 26 categories across five classes – Building Design, Products, Estates and Facilities Management, Patient Environment and Special Awards.
