Stantec has been appointed to a multimillion-pound framework to support the capital investment programme at University Hospitals of Northamptonshire (UHN) NHS Group.
The four-year multidisciplinary framework will cover healthcare estate improvements, refurbishment projects and infrastructure investment across the group’s facilities, with services spanning engineering, planning, environmental consultancy and project management.
Stantec will lead a team including GBS Architects for architectural services and Currie & Brown for project management, providing UHN with access to a range of specialist disciplines through a single framework.
The appointment was secured through the NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS) framework.
Four initial projects commissioned
The appointment has already resulted in four project commissions from UHN.
These include relocating the group’s Estates Team to enable the future construction of a new multi-storey car park, refurbishing the emergency department at Kettering General Hospital and delivering a new urgent treatment centre in Kettering.
The fourth commission is the refurbishment of the emergency department at Northampton General Hospital.
The projects will involve multidisciplinary engineering and building performance improvements to address operational requirements across the group’s existing estate.
Supporting future NHS infrastructure
The framework will provide services including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering, fire safety, infrastructure planning, geotechnical services and environmental consultancy.
The work is intended to improve building performance, support changing clinical requirements and advance sustainability objectives, while aligning with the Government’s New Hospitals Programme.
“Upgrading Britain’s hospitals to meet growing resilience challenges is more urgent than ever,” said Bryan Murray, Director of Buildings for Stantec in the UK.
He added that Stantec’s multidisciplinary approach would help it respond to UHN’s changing estate requirements over the four-year period.
The appointment expands Stantec’s work in the UK healthcare sector, providing engineering and consultancy services for hospital refurbishment and infrastructure projects.
