Bupa has unveiled its new “one-stop-shop” health centre in Canary Wharf.
The new outpatient and diagnostic centre, “Bupa Health Care Canary Wharf”, is designed to bring together primary care, specialist diagnostics and dental services in one location.
The idea behind the centre’s location in the heart of London’s central business district is to provide the services near to the over 130,000 people who work and live in the region. It is also in close proximity to a large number of companies that have corporate programmes for their employees.
Building Better Healthcare was invited to an early access tour of the new facility on Monday. At this tour, Commercial Director, Bupa Health Clinics, Nicola Green, explained that people in this area are “time poor”, so having a convenient location can make a huge difference.
The 24-week build to transform the former bank was performed by Bupa’s in-house turnkey project team, led by Jill Derrington.
Health centres have very specialist requirements for operations. This includes factors like high power needs. “We’re not an easy tenant,” Derrington explained.
“It just so happened that the building had the exact power needs that we required. That is extremely hard to find in London. So we should be able to run everything, all at once, with no issue.”

Location and multiple uses?
The 20,000 sqft site, based at 50 Bank Street, focuses on speed and being proactive, not reactive.
The centre will provide secondary care services including cardiology, urology, orthopaedics, pain and spinal, dental and maxillofacial, breast and gynaecology, ear, nose and throat, as well as carry out minor procedures onsite.
The diagnostics facilities support the secondary care services, with MRI and CT scanners, an X-ray machine and mammogram, allowing customers to transition seamlessly from scheduled appointment to further investigation under one roof.
On the opening tour, the Bupa team explained that they were also performing mammograms at 40 years of age, 10 years before the NHS. The representative explained that this was making a difference for detection and prognosis.

Sarah Melia, General Manager for Bupa Health Services, said: “With so many businesses based in Canary Wharf and over 150,000 people living in the local area, it is a key location for us to open our new centre.
“We know the challenge of fitting health appointments around family, work and life responsibilities, so we are bringing integrated health services to customers where they live and work, making it easier to stay on top of their health."
Melia explained that the opening of Bupa Health Care Canary Wharf continues Bupa’s investment in clinical and diagnostic care across the Capital, having expanded Cromwell Hospital and acquired King Edward VII’s and New Victoria Hospital in 2025 to build its London hub of services.
This investment is also evident with Bupa's flagship Mindplace Broadgate mental health centre on Liverpool Street, which opened last week.
Primary care capabilities
The centre also offers primary care services, including health assessments, private GP appointments, women’s health services such as Bupa’s Menopause Plan and Period Plan, weight management and physiotherapy appointments.
Customers will benefit from access to specialist pathways with easy onward referrals into secondary care across London for further treatment if required.

Dental care in the same location
Bupa will also relocate the Canary Wharf Dental Care practice to 50 Bank Street, giving patients convenient access to diagnostics and treatment in one place.
This integrated approach supports earlier intervention and ongoing oral health management, helping to improve long‑term wellbeing.
Mark Allan, General Manager for Bupa Dental Care, added: “We know oral care is the gateway to wider health and wellness, with many systematic conditions surfacing symptoms in the mouth.
Allan explained that if the dental team identifies a concern in the head region that requires medical examination, the in-house specialists are available on site to investigate.
“This removes the need to find an external clinic or book multiple appointments, meaning patients receive seamless, joined‑up care alongside access to broader health services that support their long‑term wellbeing.”
