The vendor of Managed Equipment Services and maintenance has begun work to develop diagnostic centre for Somerset NHS Foundation Trust

Ergéa UK, a vendor-independent Managed Equipment Services (MES) provider, has broken ground on a £17.8m community diagnostic centre in Bridgwater.

“This important project is a clear example of how innovation and collaboration can come together to benefit patients in Bridgwater,” said Mark Graves, Director of Operations at Ergéa UK. “Working in partnership with the trust, we are creating a modern, state-of-the-art diagnostic centre designed to transform patient experiences, improve outcomes, and help the NHS reduce waiting list backlogs for the community.”

Signed off by NHS England in July, works have now begun.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Ergéa joined leaders from Somerset NHS Foundation Trust and Actiform, a manufacturer of modular buildings in the UK.

Expected to be completed by summer 2026, the Bridgwater diagnostic centre will be equipped with two CT scanners, two MRI scanners, four outpatient rooms, and two two echocardiography/ultrasound suites.

“Both our radiology team and I are really excited about the opportunities to bring complex imaging into the community with this new diagnostic centre,” said Adam Turner, Head of Imaging at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. “The high-end equipment planned for this new facility will allow us to perform complex CT and MRI scans that we could previously only perform at Musgrove Park and Yeovil hospitals.”

The centre will provide a way for patients in Bridgwater and Somerset to access high-end diagnostic testing closer to home, and the extra equipment will relieve the pressure on physicians and shorten waiting times for patients.

Ergéa UK has collaborated with major NHS trusts on multiple large-scale equipment upgrade projects.

At Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s John Radcliffe Hospital, Ergéa completed a managed equipment service contract that installed a new GE Artist Evo MRI scanner and a GE SPECT/CT gamma camera alongside a full refurbishment of the Nuclear Medicine Department, boosting diagnostic capability and throughput.

At University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, Ergéa supported a rollout of advanced radiotherapy hardware, including the “Halcyon” linear accelerator and a full upgrade of the linac fleet, which increased treatment capacity by around 25% and helped reduce wait times.
