Henry Brothers has begun work on the refurbishment and expansion project for the endoscopy unit at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust’s (NUH) Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC).
Scheduled for completion in early 2026, the new state-of-the-art facility will enhance diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients in Nottingham and the wider East Midlands.
Henry Brothers’ Managing Director, Ian Taylor, said: “We are very proud to have been appointed to develop this modern endoscopy unit for Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
“Being based just a short distance from the Queen’s Medical Centre, it gives us great pleasure to contribute to improving the infrastructure and patient care at our local hospital.”
The facility is scheduled for completion in early 2026
The redevelopment will see the existing endoscopy unit reconfigured and expanded to create a substantially larger, modern facility.
A key feature of the new development is the addition of a third procedure room, increasing clinical capacity and enabling a higher volume of complex endoscopic procedures to be carried out each year.
Among the primary benefits for patients will be increased capacity and reduced waiting times, particularly for urgent inpatient diagnostics.
The new unit will also provide an improved care environment, with enhanced privacy, dignity, and safety for patients, while ensuring full compliance with national standards for ventilation and room size in endoscopy services.
The project is backed by a £12minvestment from Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and NHS England
As well as serving NUH patients, the QMC unit performs complex procedures for referrals from neighbouring hospitals. The upgraded facility will strengthen this important regional service provision.
Staff at the Trust will also benefit from improved facilities, with upgraded training environments supporting Queen’s Medical Centre’s role as a centre of excellence in endoscopy education and service delivery.
The project is backed by a £12minvestment from Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and NHS England.

It forms part of a wider regional programme, which has seen over £57minvested in endoscopy services across the Midlands over the past three years.
A spokesperson for NHS England in the Midlands said: “This is a significant milestone for East Midlands patients. NHS England has been investing in improving and expanding endoscopy services across the region to ensure we have sufficient capacity for the population’s needs.
“The expansion at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is a key part of that programme.”
