The construction firm has secured Building Safety Regulator approval to progress refurbishment works at the ED and urgent and emergency care facilities in Oxford

Marcon Construction has secured approval from the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) to progress redevelopment works at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

The project will enable the next phase of internal refurbishment and reconfiguration of the Emergency Department and urgent & emergency care facilities.

The works are being delivered on behalf of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and will focus on upgrading and reconfiguring existing clinical spaces within the hospital’s main acute care site.

Marcon Construction is a UK-based construction company delivering healthcare, education and commercial building projects, specialising in refurbishment and fit-out works.

The redevelopment programme is intended to expand urgent and emergency care capacity while improving patient flow through the department, alongside the introduction of a collocated urgent treatment centre.

Once complete, the scheme is expected to provide upgraded clinical environments supporting quicker assessment, treatment and patient flow.

The redesigned layouts aim to reduce congestion and improve patient flow through the department.

Delivery will take place within a live hospital environment, with emergency services remaining operational throughout the construction programme, requiring phased and carefully managed sequencing of works.

With Building Safety Regulator approval now secured, the project is set to move forward into internal refurbishment and reconfiguration works as part of wider efforts to modernise urgent and emergency care provision at one of the region’s busiest acute hospital sites.

Marcon Construction has also previously delivered refurbishment works at John Radcliffe Hospital, including upgrades to the Osler Ward to create modern inpatient accommodation for respiratory and acute medical care.

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Ergéa UK also recently marked a major milestone in the modernisation of diagnostic imaging services at John Radcliffe Hospital following the installation of advanced MRI and nuclear medicine equipment delivered through a managed equipment services partnership.
