The construction firm has been appointed to build a two-storey facility for Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust to replace outdated therapy units

A £9.8m contract to deliver a new therapies and outpatients building at Stoke Mandeville Hospital has been awarded to MTX Contracts.

The two-storey facility, commissioned by Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, will replace existing therapies and outpatients units at the hospital and bring a range of rehabilitation and treatment services into a single, modern building.

The scheme includes demolition of the current buildings and full site preparation ahead of construction.

Once complete, the development will provide 14 private consultation rooms, a large rehabilitation gym, a dedicated hand therapy area, physiotherapy cubicles, and specialist orthotics rooms, all located on the ground floor.

Administrative offices and plant space will be accommodated on the upper level.

“We are delighted to have been again chosen by the Trust to build new healthcare facilities… [and] deliver the project faster, greener, safer and more cost effectively than traditional construction methods,” said David Hartley, Managing Director at MTX Contracts.

Construction will utilise modern methods of construction (MMC), with 38 factory-manufactured structural steel units forming the building.

These will be produced offsite while demolition and groundworks are carried out, before being craned into position and made weatherproof to accelerate the fit-out phase and installation of mechanical and electrical systems.

The project will also reinstate a linked access route to the main hospital building, maintaining established circulation while reducing disruption to ongoing hospital operations.

MTX is also currently working with the Trust on a separate project at Wycombe Hospital, where a six-storey building is under development.
