PCT NHS Leicestershire threatens Modcon UK with court action over delays

Published: 8-Jun-2011

A primary care trust is threatening legal action against contractors building a £2.3m day case treatment centre. NHS Leicestershire County and Rutland has sent legal letters to Modcon UK regarding delays to the project. The prefabricated buildings intended for the development at St Luke's Hospital in Market Harborough, were constructed in the United Arab Emirates, but we damaged while being transported to the UK by sea. Assembly work did start on site, but Modcon UK was forced to suspend operations several weeks ago. The opening of the centre is now a year behind schedule. Health campaigner, Phil Knowles, said: "The project has lurched and lumbered from one crisis to another. I want to know when the public can expect to see the unit open." Modcon was unavailable for comment.
