Trust signs three-year deal with Corps Security

East Surrey Hospital has signed a three-year deal with Corps Security to provide manned guards and mobile security response services round the clock.

The 24/7 presence will help to ensure the safety of staff, patients and visitors, as well as protect the hospital from vandalism or theft.

The hospital, which first opened in 1979 and is run by Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, has recently seen a second major phase of redevelopment and now comprises more than 25 wards, outpatient clinics and a round-the-clock A&E department.

Richard Bridgman, the hospital’s security manager, said: “The safety of staff, patients and visitors, as well the buildings and the important equipment that is housed in them, is taken incredibly seriously by us.

“The use of manned guarding, in conjunction with surveillance and access control technology, is vital and those running the hospital need to know that those they trust to carry out this aspect of their operation can provide security services of the highest standards. Corps Security came up with a solution that met our specific requirements and helps the hospital achieve all its security based objectives.

Following the signing of the contract, under theTransfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 2006 , some of the staff who worked for the previous guarding company have transferred to Corps Security. Corps Security has also launched a new hospital training module for its staff, which will cover control and restraint training to account for the unique risks a hospital environment can present.
