Published: 5-Aug-2011

SKYLARK Ward at the Local Care Centre in Mount Gould, Plymouth, has come out on top for the commitment of its staff towards infection prevention and control. The ward supports the rehabilitation of adults and older people who have suffered illness or injury and was recently awarded a certificate of recognition by NHS Plymouth for having the best overall infection control audit score for 2010/11. Brenda Dale, consultant nurse, said: "All of our staff including clinicians, cleaners and estates professionals take pride in the environment and appreciate how a clean, well-maintained environment is essential for good patient care. This can reduce the risk of cross transmission of infections from the environment and equipment to patients and staff." Dawn Ellison, ward manager of Skylark, added: "I am very proud to accept this award on behalf of the team. As a team we are very proud of our achievements and work hard to maintain our high standards. We will continue to do so in the future."
