Galliford Try has started construction on the Birmingham Centre for Anatomy, Surgical and Clinical Skills (B‑CASCS), a cutting-edge facility designed to transform medical and healthcare education in the West Midlands.
The centre forms part of the Birmingham Health Innovation Campus (BHIC), the city’s first dedicated life sciences hub linking education, research and clinical practice.
The 2.5-floor facility will feature fully equipped mock hospital wards, operating theatres, mortuary and embalming suites, as well as virtual reality and immersive learning zones.
Students will also gain hands-on experience in simulated home-care and outpatient environments, reflecting the full spectrum of modern healthcare delivery.
“This project reflects our commitment to delivering world-class facilities that support innovation, sustainability and collaboration across the healthcare sector,” said Simon Courtney, Managing Director at Galliford Try Building West Midlands and South West.
The project is scheduled to welcome its first cohort in September 2026 and sits alongside the Precision Health Technologies Accelerator and incubator spaces for healthcare startups, creating a hub for collaboration between education, industry and the NHS.
B‑CASCS represents a new standard in UK healthcare education, equipping students and postgraduates with practical skills in realistic clinical settings and strengthening the pipeline of clinically-ready professionals for the NHS and beyond.
