A suite of products from Altro has been installed at the newly completed Same Day Emergency Care and Minor Injuries unit at Bassetlaw Hospital, designed to streamline urgent care and reduce overnight admissions.
The scheme was designed by P+HS Architects.
“Altro has such a great reputation for its safety aspects and durability, and the fact that it works just as well aesthetically alongside the other qualities is why we like to specify it,” said Hayley Hunter, Interior Designer at P+HS Architects.
The construction of the facility was completed in December 2025 by IHP, a joint venture between VINCI Building and Sir Robert McAlpine, with P+HS doing the architectural work.
The site is designed to provide rapid assessment, diagnosis and treatment for patients with urgent conditions, allowing them to return home the same day avoiding overnight hospital admissions.
The same day emergency care unit is part of the hospital's new Emergency Village, which aims to improve patient flow and care environments.
What products from Altro were used?
The fit-out project completed by P+S Architects features a coordinated package of Altro flooring and wall systems tailored to different clinical environments.
Altro Illustra has been used in main circulation areas, while Altro Wood brings a softer aesthetic to waiting areas and the nurses’ station.
In wet areas and toilets, Altro Pisces provides a domestic-style finish.
Hygienic wall protection has also been installed, including Altro Whiterock Satins and Altro Whiterock Digiclad in treatment rooms and waiting spaces.
How will the fit-out make the unit more durable?
From a delivery perspective, the project team emphasised the importance of durability and proven performance in a high-footfall clinical setting.
The use of UK-manufactured materials also helped mitigate potential supply chain delays during construction.
Installation was carried out by A. Cumberlidge, which worked around operational constraints by scheduling works in high-traffic areas outside of peak hours to minimise disruption to hospital services.
Since opening, the unit has been fully operational, with the completed environment supporting both clinical functionality and patient experience in a busy urgent care setting.
