Planners give green light for 75-bed care home, 30 supported living apartments, and community facilities in Beeston

Planners have approved an application for a new £15m care village in Beeston, Nottingham.

Broxtowe Borough Council has given the green light for the development by Charterpoint Senior Living, Peveril Securities, and care provider, Belong.

Featuring a 75-bedroom care facility, 30 supported living apartments, and public amenities including a bistro, hair salon, exercise studio, and function rooms; the development will be on part of the former Myford works site in Chilwell Road.

The council had previously approved plans for 32 houses, 15 apartments and a convenience food store on a separate section of the site.

Chief executive of Charterpoint, Adrian Goose, said: “Research by leading care operators has shown that care villages provide numerous benefits for older people, including less frailty, reduced rates of depression, and potential significant savings in social care costs for local authorities. Care is provided on site, depending on residents’ needs.

“We know that loneliness can be a problem for some older people, and retirement and care communities provide social opportunities, companionship and activities – all of which can improve the health and wellbeing of residents.

We anticipate that this scheme will be a great asset to the community of Beeston and its residents. At the same time, it will provide jobs in Beeston and further enhance the local economy.”

The care community in Beeston will be run by Belong, a not-for-profit, charitable organisation that provides a range of care, depending on needs.

Speaking about the new care village, Peveril Homes’ director, James Smith, said: “It is crucial that with the UK’s ageing population, enough high-quality care home facilities are built to ensure that those in retirement living receive the finest care possible.

“Coupled with the wider redevelopment incorporating modern apartments, new-build homes and retail, this development will boost Beeston’s economy and make a significant difference on a local level.”
